Flexo or Rotogravure?

The printing technology we recommend for your particular packaging will depend primarily on the volume and quality of the printing you desire. Here are a few general rules of thumb that may explain why we recommend one technique or the other:

Advantages with Flexo:
  • Well suited for small orders
  • Short set-up times
  • Relatively low start up costs

Advantages with Rotogravure:
  • Better suited for large quantity runs thanks to greater stability and very high repeatability of quality (extremely small differences from one series to the next)
  • Superior image depth
  • Better gradation thanks to lower raster (dots as low as 4% while flexographic unable to go lower than 10%)
  • Rotogravure offers a screen resolution of up to 80 lines/cm as compared to a maximum of 48 lines/cm for flexographic printing
